BIKE Week is pedalling off across the county from today, with the community invited to gear up for a diverse range of activities and events being staged locally.

Bike Week is a national celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling, and will run from this Saturday, June 9, until Sunday, June 17.

Locally, South Dublin County Council, in association with various community and cycling groups, has organised a number of bike-themed events for all the family.

The week, which will be officially launched in South Dublin County this Monday, includes a primary schools art competition, free bike maintenance outside the Civic Offices in Clondalkin on Tuesday and Thursday between 11am and 1pm and a lunchtime cycle for adults leaving Library Square, Tallaght to Tymon Park, this Thursday from 12.45pm to 2pm.

Safe cycling will also be part of the week-long programme, with the minimum 1.5m passing distance campaign being promoted.

In recent years, the council has invested in a number of bike schemes around South Dublin County, with information on how you can get around the county on bike also available.

According to the council, everybody is invited to join them in celebrating and promoting Bike Week 2018.

“Why not get your local cycling club, business, organisation or community involved in an active, healthy and fun week promoting all that is good about cycling around South Dublin County,” the council said.
