Boy charged with murder of girl takes up bail offer
By Brendan Grehan
A BOY (13) charged with the murder of Leixlip schoolgirl Anastasia Kriegel (14) has taken up his bail, Dublin Children’s Court has heard.
The boy, who cannot be named because he is a juvenile, was the first to be charged with the murder of Ms Kriegel at Glenwood House, Laraghcon, Clonee Road, Lucan on May 14 last, contrary to common law.

Her body was found at the disused farmhouse three days after she was reported missing.
A second 13-year-old boy has been charged with Ms Kriegel’s murder and is currently in detention in Oberstown pending his trial. He is due before Dublin Children’s Court on August 14 next.
On Monday, July 30 last, bail terms were set in the High Court for the first 13-year-old.
On Thursday morning, August 2, the boy appeared on bail before Judge Flann Brennan in Dublin Children’s Court.
He was accompanied by his father and his grandfather.
A solicitor for the DPP told Judge Brennan that the DPP has issued a direction under Section 52.4 of the 2001 Children Act confirming the case will proceed.
The Children Act is the legal framework of the juvenile justice system.
The solicitor for the DPP said the DPP has directed trial on indictment in respect of the charge.
The boy’s solicitor, Donough Molloy told Judge Brennan there was consent to a four-week adjournment for service of the book of evidence.
The terms of bail, which required an independent surety, were not stated in court.
Garda Inspector Mark O’Neill said the High Court had ordered the boy and his family to liaise with the Extern Ireland organisation with regard to bail issues.
A youth worker from the agency has met the boy’s family already and was in court for the hearing.
Inspector O’Neill proposed that the youth worker assigned to the case would provide an assessment for the next hearing at the Children’s Court.
Judge Brennan agreed to make the order after Mr Molloy said there was no objection to a report being furnished.
The teen was then remanded on bail to August 30 next.
