Brilliant Bra event to link up at Corkagh Park this Sunday
By Aideen O'Flaherty
THE FOURTH annual Great Bra Chain event, which sees all manner of colourful bras clipped together to create a chain in aid of breast cancer research, will take place at Corkagh Park on Sunday, August 27.
Clondalkin sisters Ann McDonnell and Lyn Lee set up the event in memory of their late mother, Catherine McDonnell, who passed away in 1970 after suffering from breast cancer.
The sisters are encouraging people to donate €2 and their bra to the cause.
Ann told The Echo: “We came up with the idea because we wanted to raise money for breast cancer research, but we wanted to do something different.
“In the first year of the bra chain we had about 300 bras.”
The bras will all be clipped together to create the chain, and the sisters will also be fundraising over the weekend.
Ann added: “On the weekend of the bra chain we go around pubs and do a bucket collection, so people are getting to know us now.
“We’ll also put posters out around Clondalkin and Ballyfermot.
“We hope to raise about €2,000 for Breast Cancer Research in Galway.
“We have a lot of survivors who come and connect to the bra chain, and there are some people who write things like RIP Mam on the bra that they donate.”
The Great Bra Chain will take place in Corkagh Park on Sunday, August 27, from midday to 4pm.
