Building investment of €3m signals future of college growth

IT TALLAGHT opened its new off-campus building this week, a €3 million investment which signals significant growth for the college in terms of space and course development.
Early last year, the technology institute purchased an empty building close to The Square shopping centre which was once home to a Bank of Ireland call centre. This building will now provide the college with much-needed classroom space.
The purchase and refit of the building cost in the region of €3m, an investment which further solidifies the institute’s commitment to its 5,000 students and the region it serves.
As well as enhancing the learning space available, the new off-campus build-ing, which is a five-minute walk from IT Tallaght, will also provide the college with the scope for further course development – alongside landing around 600 students into the heart of Tallaght’s retail area.
Paul Campbell, estate manager with IT Tallaght, told The Echo: “We had a soft opening on Monday and will have an official launch in the coming months.
“This is a very positive development for the college – not only is it giving us much-needed space but we now have the space to develop some of our course offerings. Limited space was, in the past, limiting our courses.”
He added: “It’s also beneficial to traders in-and-around The Square shopping.
“The new building will bring a steady increase in footfall into this retail hub and there will be a definite benefit to businesses.”
All services will remain on campus, with the new building purely offering classroom space, computer labs, canteen and staff facilities.
The Echo also understands that plans to develop the original campus are expected to be lodged with South Dublin County Council early in the new year.
