People encouraged to register for Ramble Aid charity walks

By Mary Dennehy

WITH just over two weeks to go until charity walking event Ramble Aid, local people and groups are encouraged to register for a good cause and participate in one of three walks hitting the trail on September 26

Established in 2011 by South Dublin County Sports Partnership, Ramble Aid has over recent years successfully promoted local walking routes and parks – in an attempt to get people active while raising money for charity.

This year, the sports partnership has handed the event over to energetic walking troupe the Kiltipper Ramblers – a community-based club which not only promotes walking and local routes, but is working hard to promote Tallaght as a walking tourist destination.

Three walks will take place on Saturday, September 26 which, fully supervised by experienced leaders and Dublin Mountain Partnership Rangers, are graded to different fitness levels.

The walks include a family 5k and 10k loop walk of Bohernbreena Reservoir, in which children go free, an 8k ramble of Maureen’s Brook in Glenamole and a 4 Peaks Challenge, which involves a 10k hike, Seefin to Kippure loop, for those with a good level of fitness.

Registration for all three walks is €15, children go free, with money raised going to the walk’s official charities, The Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice and TeenLine – with sponsorship cards available for walkers who would also like to raise money for their own chosen charity.

The €15 registration fee will include sponsorship cards, a Ramble Aid t-shirt and a Ramble Aid water bottle.

Registration is now open at www.rambleaid.ie or walkers taking part in the Bohernabreena walk can register on the day.
The event is supported by South Dublin County Council, Tallaght Community Council [TCC], South Dublin County Sports Partnership, the Dublin Mountain Partnership and a host of local businesses.

Essential items and dress for each of the walks are listed on www.rambleaid.ie. For further details contact Kiltipper Ramblers on 083 4552353 or email kiltipperramblers@gmail.com
