Bumper crowds turn up for Lucan parade
By Brendan Grehan
DESPITE the wintry weather or the attractions of the rugby match, Lucan’s St Patrick’s Day Parade still went down a bomb with bumper crowds attending.
It was the parades 28th year and this years edition was one to remember. There was a great turnout for the Parade in Lucan and the weather added to the festive atmosphere.
Assembling at Tesco, the parade kicked off at 3pm. Óglaigh Náisiúnta na h Éireann were first in line followed by the St Laurence O’ Toole Pipe band. A perennial favourite, the Goldwing Owners Club got a lot of attention for their large almost car-size motorcycle cruisers.
The Star Dance Academy deserve a shout-out for their energetic routines. They were followed by Specsavers, a vintage car and the Chinese community. All the local sports clubs were involved including Lucan Sarsfields, Barnhall RFC, Lucan BMX Club, Weston Hockey Club, Adamstown Cricket Club and Lucan Special Olympics.
A spokesperson for the organsing committee told The Echo: “A huge thank you and well done to everyone who braved the cold to watch and partake in the parade. I hope you all enjoyed the day.”
