Burning out cars is ‘the lowest of the low’

A COUNCILLOR has described cars being burnt out in the Tymon area of Tallaght as a “reprehensible” act, while Dublin Fire Brigade have warned of the dangers of the “toxic thick black smoke” that emanates from burning cars.
Two cars were burnt out in Tymon in recent days, with a car being set alight on St Aongus’ Green on Sunday night, while on Tuesday a car was burnt out on the football pitch near the National Basketball Arena.

Mick Duff, an Independent councillor for Tallaght Central, told The Echo: “It’s reprehensible. I don’t know who is behind it, but we haven’t seen this happening for a while.
“I take it not as a pre-Halloween stunt, I’d say that there’s some nefarious reason for the cars being burnt out.
“Burning out a car on a sport facility is the lowest of the low, because then you’re depriving so many people of sporting activity.
“I call upon everyone in the area to be more vigilant, and to contact the gardai if they have any information.”
Elsewhere, Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene of a car that had been set alight in West Tallaght on Sunday afternoon, and they warned people of the dangers of smoke from a car fire.
Dublin Fire Brigade posted on social media, stating: “Car fires produce toxic thick black smoke and on a clear day is visible for miles.
“You should stay upwind of them, and close the windows of your home.”
