Burnt-out car in Tymon Park destroys tarmac and cycle path

A COUNCILLOR has described a burnt-out car that was left near the entrance of the National Basketball Arena in Balrothery, Tallaght, as an “appalling” act.

The car was burnt out just inside from the entrance of the arena on the night of September 6, damaging the tarmac and cycle path that surrounded it.

Local councillor Mick Duff told The Echo that cars being burnt out in the area happens relatively infrequently, but it is a source of frustration when it does occur.

“There have been a couple of cars burnt out there over the years,” he explained. “It doesn’t happen often, but it’s a shame when it happens – I can’t understand it.

“It’s appalling. It takes the area down because it destroys the tarmac and the cycle track. It’s awful.

“It’s not a regular occurrence, but it’s a nuisance when it happens.

“It’s a mindless activity that comes at a cost to the taxpayer because of the cost of the services, like the fire brigade and the guards, that have to get involved.

“No community wants to see that.”

The remnants of the car were removed shortly after it was discovered, however there is still some remaining damage to the tarmac and greenspace where it had been left.
