Bus route is suspended after threats to drivers

A BUS route in Clondalkin was suspended this week following threats made to drivers.

Dublin Bus drivers on the 13 route informed their unions that they will no longer stop at Bawnogue after 6pm, starting on Thursday, January 18.

Cllr Timmons (Ind) said: “Drivers made this decision in order to prioritise the safety of both their passengers and themselves. The curtailments will continue until they receive guarantees that they can pass through without the threat of attacks.”

The service will operate along the Nangor Road and terminate in Grange Castle.

“This means the only area along the route that will not be serviced during the curtailment hours will be Bawnogue housing scheme. Grange Castle will still have a full service,” said Timmons.

“I spoke to the local Sergeant last Friday and was told the guards will patrol the buses in the evening and all incidents must be reported. I am informed of 14 incidents, four of which are on the pulse system. It is regrettable that such drastic action is being taken as this will effect so many in our community.”

This needs a community response but it starts with parents as it appears the main culprits are minors.”

A Dublin Bus spokesman previously said they “take incidents of anti-social behaviour extremely seriously. We have a firm strategy in place to tackle anti-social behaviour on our buses.”
