Business Network paying dividends for members

A TALLAGHT chapter of Business Network Ireland (BNI) has been up and running since the New Year, but already the connections are paying dividends for it’s members.

The group meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6.45am to 8.15am – three times a month remotely via Zoom and once a month in person at The Edge in Tallaght.

The best benefits are accrued at the in-person meetings, according to Simone McCann, president of the Tallaght BNI (Business Network Ireland).

“Remote meetings are good if you are travelling from a bit further away, and some of our members are outside Tallaght, but personally I think you get a better feel for the face-to-face meetings,” said Simone.

“Even just attending the meeting as a visitor, to share details with other businesses, you could pick up a really good contact.”

A global initiative, among their benefits BNI cite increased business prospects, networking opportunities, and access to training programmes and other tools that can build your business.

A key criteria is that only one person from each professional speciality, is allowed to join a chapter of BNI, eliminating the possibility of competition among members.

Simone, a financial advisor, says there may be a higher density of some professions such as her own, and she had to wait to join, or people can start their own chapter.

“Local Tallaght businesses are a big part of this chapter. We have a digital marketer, an accountant, videographer, photographer, hypnologist, a printer from Brookfield, and many more,” said Simone.

“Our business ethos is that ‘givers gain’, we help each other and grow our own businesses, which is really nice. It is hard enough in getting referrals, but people in this network are willing to help each other and we are already seeing the benefits and aspects like referrals here, even though we only got going in the new year.”

Simone said the chapter want to grow in the Tallaght area and they encourage local businesses to visit a meeting at The Edge and check out what the environment is like for themselves.

“We’d encourage people to visit for free and see if it is a fit for them as it is for us. It can be lonely working for yourself, although we also have members who work for businesses,” said Simone.

“It’s an opportunity to promote your business. We’re all there to help. The group is really passionate. It’s a positive experience. I know a lot of local businesses that could benefit from the potential that is there.”

Tallaght BNI meetings at The Edge take place on the first Tuesday of the month (the next one is scheduled for June 6, at 6.30am).
