THE community is invited to help showcase all that is great about living, working and doing business in Tallaght by participating in a two-day enterprising event – which is banking on local support.

Led by Bank of Ireland, with support from local organisations, Tallaght Enterprising Town, which is running on May 6 and 7, will provide an opportunity for both businesses and local sports clubs, societies and associations to showcase what they do.

On Friday, May 6, the event will be staged in Tallaght Stadium and will focus on Tallaght-based small to medium businesses, which are invited to showcase what they offer as part of an enterprising day – to which members of the public will be invited to.

Martin Kavanagh, Branch Manager of Bank of Ireland, Tallaght, said: “On the Friday we want to get Tallaght’s business community all under the one roof.

“Businesses will be able to take a stand for free and promote what they do to other businesses and members of the public.

“We hope it will open up networking opportunities for businesses and also introduce enterprises to new customers, who can buy products on the day, book services or take a business card.

“The event also hopes to encourage people to see the great range of businesses in Tallaght and to shop local.”

He added: “The knock-on effect of these events have proven very positive in other communities.

“For example in Kells , the event helped to fill a number of units in a retail area after people saw the great community spirit between both residents and businesses – and the business opportunities those relationships created.”

TV chef and cookbook author Rachel Allen and Oisin Barry, co-founder of the Irish Fairy Door Company are among the guest speakers planned for the business event on Friday.

On the Saturday, the event will move to Tallaght Community School where sports clubs and community groups and organisations are invited to promote themselves to the community – and showcase what they do while recruiting new members.

Local groups are invited to have a display for free and to be part of a diverse community showcase, which promotes and celebrates all that is great about Tallaght.

Bank of Ireland, Tallaght Enterprise Town also has representatives from South Dublin Chamber, Trustus, The Echo, The Square shopping centre and Tallaght Community School on its board.

Emma Kennedy, Managing Director of The Echo, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in such a great event which promotes the vibrant and diverse business community here in Tallaght – and which encourages people to look local when it comes to buying products and services.

“Promoting local clubs and groups is also a key aspect of the two-day event and we hope that both businesses and groups engage with the event – which will bring all corners of the community together, showcasing all of the positive things that happen here in Tallaght.”

The business expo will run in Tallaght Stadium on Friday, May 6, from 3pm to 7pm while the Sports and Community expo will run in Tallaght Community School on Saturday, May 7, from 12noon to 3pm.

In order for the event to be a success, businesses and groups are encouraged to take part and to contact Martin Kavanagh at the Tallaght branch on 076 6231182 to book a stand.

Members of the public are also encouraged to make the event a success by dropping into both expos.
