Businesses lodge appeal over ‘confusion’ around new Finches pub and 26 apartments

BUSINESSES have lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala over a development, with “confusion” over access to a right of way among their concerns. South Dublin County Council granted planning permission for a mixed use development at the Finches Public House and shopping centre in Clondalkin.

The applicant, Old Nangor Road Limited, plans to build a public house and 26 apartments (four one beds, 22 two-beds).

A number of submissions were made to the council by businesses at Rowlagh shopping centre, citing “amazement” at a lack of interaction by the developer.

A couple of residents also objected, citing existing anti-social problems in the area, and concerns that the development will impact privacy and parking.

Among those appealing to ABP are Andalusian Properties, who stated in their submission to the council that the developer will “block access to our private car park while building his access through the lane over land that he is not entitled to access. He will be trespassing”.

The property company said the developer is using private land to build access for his development for “which he has no permission, which must undermine the whole proposal”.

“How will this work be carried out without substantial interference to the local residents,” they asked Proposals in the plans include the demolition of the existing single storey public house and construction of a four storey apartment block at the site.

There is also plans for a car park for 12 cars, bin stores and bicycle stands at ground level.

Communal areas include first floor courtyard above carpark and third floor roof terraces for apartments.

The appeal with ABP is due to be decided by July 17, 2023.
