Calls made for changes to social housing plans in Clondalkin

Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Mid West Eoin Ó Bróin has called for ‘significant changes’ to the Councils proposed 109 social housing plan for the Grange.
The changes were outlined in a detailed submission by the TD to South Dublin County Council last week.
Deputy Ó Bróin told The Echo: “Sinn Féin has long campaigned for a Council led mixed tenure development on the Grange site in Clondalkin.
"We want to see a mixture of social, affordable rental and affordable sale houses integrated with social and economic amenities for the wider community”.
Deputy Ó Bróin said that the Department of Housing is insisting on opening two separate developments funded by private interests.
He added: “The first phase is a Public Private Partnership project for 109 social houses adjacent to Kilcarbery and Cherrywood. Following an extensive consultation with local residents in Oldchurch, Kilcarbery and Cherrywood Villas, Park, Lawns and Crescent we have made a detailed submission to the Council for consideration.”
Deputy O’Bróin said that 235 households out of a sample of over 600 completed the survey.
He said: “While a majority were favourable to the housing proposal there was concern that the houses are not being properly integrated into the larger future development. There were also concerns regarding possible flooding at Corkagh Park”.
Deputy Ó Bróin says that while Clondalkin needs more affordable and social housing “any development must avoid the mistakes of the past and ensure that houses and amenities are developed in tandem and in a way that provides for stable and sustainable communities.”
