Camogie success for MacDara’s
IT WAS all smiles for St MacDara’s Community School on Tuesday when they claimed the Dublin Schools Senior Camogie ‘D’ decider after beating Gaelcholaiste Reachrann 4-11 to 1-14.
Anna Marie Durkan, who scored seven points in the Dublin Schools Junior final two week ago, was in flying form for MacDara’s in this Senior decider with three points as she tormented Gaelcholaiste Reachrann throughout Orla Keighran was another player that impressed for the winners scoring two goals and three points in what was an impressive performance.
Co-captains Saoirse Gavigan (Crumlin) and Amy Barrett (St Jude’s) impressed for the winners as did Anna Lawlor who came on at corner forward for Clodagh Walsh who got injured mid-way through the second half and registered a vital goal.
Grace Quinn when introduced made a number of vital clearances in the second half while Anna Marie Durkan made a great impact with three points from full forward.
Goalkeeper Mia Clohessy, who plays for the Dublin U19 team, was very effective between the posts while Rebecca Horan was another player who posed problems for Gaelcholaiste Reachrann at midfield.
Forwards Clodagh Walsh, Orla Keighran and Rebecca Horan were very good for MacDara’s and always looked dangerous in front of goal.
Only four points separated the sides at half time but scores from Saoirse Gavigan, Orla Keighran and Rebecca Horan had MacDara’s in the driving seat mid-way through the half.
MacDara’s backs in particular Orla Nerney put in a good show as did Katie Fitzgerald at full back and Elena McCarthy.
Despite a couple of scores from Gaelcholaiste Reachrann, the Templeogue side held out to record the title.
On their way to the final, MacDara’s overcame Firhouse Community college in the quarter-final and Gaelscoil na Phaiarsaigh in the semis.
It was a great win for MacDara’s who won the Dublin Junior ‘D’ Dublin title two weeks ago.
