Carr hoping to help drive Hoops on against Cork

SHAMROCK Rovers will be looking to further cement their top-four standing when they travel to Turners Cross to take on defending champions Cork City tomorrow night (Friday).

The Hoops will be coming into this match on a run of three straight league wins and very much bolstered by Friday night’s 2-0 defeat of Derry City that served to move them three points clear of the Candystripes.

Dan Carr was on target for Shamrock Rovers in their impressive 2-0 victory over Derry City in Tallaght Stadium on Friday night

Striker Dan Carr was on target for the Hoops in that hugely important tie, firing home on the half volley just before the halftime break.

Recalling that score, Carr told The Echo: “When the ball came across, I felt I just had to get a first touch and then get my shot on target. Thankfully it went in and we won the game.

“Every win is important. We want to be moving up and catching Waterford. We have our targets and we’ll take each game as they come.”

Now with nine points from their last three games, Rovers will be taking on a Cork side wounded after their 2-1 defeat to Dundalk that allowed the Lilywhites to leapfrog them at the top.

And if that was not motivation enough to bag the spoils tomorrow night, the Leesiders will also be looking to avenge their heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rovers in Tallaght Stadium back in April.

Challenge

Carr appreciates the challenge Rovers face saying, “We know it’s not easy to go and get points away at Cork but hopefully we can carry the good form that we’ve shown in the last three games into this one.

“We’ve been creating chances and that’s the hardest thing to do in games, so we’ve just got to take them.

“We know what Cork have got and we know what we’ve got. We’ve just got to utilise that as best we can,” he added.

On another note Rovers will welcome Scottish giants Celtic to Tallaght Stadium for a friendly this Saturday.

While this game comes in the middle of their league campaign, the Hoops will be looking to give a much better account of themselves having shipped nine goals against the Scottish champions last summer.
