Castletymon library plans have gone to public consultation

THE plans for the development of a new library at Castletymon have gone to public consultation, with a Part 8 application for the new building submitted by South Dublin County Council.

As previously reported in The Echo, the plans are for the development of a new library building on a site located beside St Aengus church, adjacent to the junction with Tymon North Gardens.

According to the application, the plans are for the construction of a new single-storey public library over 670 sq

m, with a 50 sqm plant room at roof level.

There are also plans for landscaping and public realm improvements to the area surrounding the site, and the adjustment of the existing footpath verges to allow for 13 additional car-parking spaces.

The plans, which were brought to the Part 8 process after being approved by the elected members of South Dublin County Council, had previously been welcomed by local Labour councillor Mick Duff.

Cllr Duff previously told The Echo that the plans for the library are for a “very bright and airy building” that will include an internet cafe.

He also stressed the importance of the public getting involving in the Part 8 consultation process.

Cllr Duff said: “I would urge the community to engage with the Part 8 process once it begins, and we would certainly be interested to hear the comments from the public.

“Everyone is entitled to make submissions once the plans go on display, and it would be great to see people engage with the process.”

A decision to construct a new library in Castletymon was made after South Dublin County Council and the owner of the current library building failed to come to an agreement.

The plans can be viewed in County Hall, Tallaght until Thursday, October 6 or online at www.sdcc.ie and http://consult.sdublincoco.ie.

Written submissions from the public can be made on the application until Thursday, October 20 at 4pm to South Dublin County Council.
