Charged with assaulting Garda while being detained

A MAN has been charged after being initially arrested for a public order incident and later assaulting, causing injury, a member of An Garda Síochána.

Gardai responded to a report of a public order incident on the Old Bawn Road in Tallaght, in the early hours of Saturday (August 13) morning.

Responding to the report, Gardaí arrested a man in his 40s for public order offences.

In a statement to The Echo, a Garda spokesperson said: “One male in his 40s was arrested for public order offences and brought to Rathfarnham Garda Station.”

“This person was charged under section four and section six of the Public Order Act and was later released pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“During the course of his detention, one member of An Garda Siochana was assaulted and suffered injuries. “Investigations are ongoing.”
