Cherry Orchard family puts their energy consumption to the test
A FAMILY from Cherry Orchard are competing this week for a chance to win a year’s supply of free electricity.
The Traynor family, Ciara, Ray and their son Alex (8), are taking part in the Pinergy ‘Baseload’ competition, which airs on Pinergy’s Facebook page, from March 27-31 and is hosted by Tallaght native, Brendan courtney.
Baseload features three families – the Traynors, the Lyons (Kildare), and Taylors (Meath) – competing against each other to win a year’s free electricity from Pinergy.
The families entered the competition online and agreed to “leave the kids in charge” of their energy consumption while being filmed in their homes for 24 hours.
During the same 24-hour period, the kids will teach their family how to reduce their electricity usage by as much as they can by sharing everyday energy saving tips.
The family that lowers their electricity consumption by the highest percentage will win a year’s free electricity and a new bike for the child in charge.
Their electricity usage is monitored by Pinergy’s ‘In Home Display’ which tracks and monitors a household’s usage to show how much electricity is being used in real time.
Kingswood native and television presenter Brendan Courtney, created the format and is hosting the show to highlight how much electricity we waste in our homes.
Brendan Courtney said: “The days of estimating bills are disappearing, plus we all hate waste, its bad for the environment and bad for our pocket.
“I devised a game show that is fun and informative for all the family, plus we are airing on Facebook, which is a world first for an energy company.”
Pinergy’s Baseload competition series airs at https://www.facebook.com/PinergyIRL/ on Monday, March 27, with a new episode daily until Friday, March 31.
