Children cheer for new running track and pitch

UPGRADED during the summer break, staff and students enjoyed the launch of their new running track and GAA pitch at St Ronan’s National School, Deansrath, Clondalkin.

It was a festive atmosphere during the re-launch of the facilities of Friday, amid baking hot sun and a tv crew in tow.

St Ronan’s NS teacher Edel Conlon said: “It was a great day, there was a lot of things going on. The track and GAA pitch is for our kids, and will also be used by our school marathon kids programme, and our cross-country students and all the children in the school.

“Our running track had an upgrade during the summer months thanks to local businesses SISK and Shannon Valley. On Friday we opened our new path and launched our Marathon Kids programme for this year. SISK Construction are also providing an ice-cream van for the event.

“Our pitch now has new goalposts and is lined out to meet the Cuman na mBunscoill requirements. We are looking forward to playing lots of matches here. The path is wheelchair accessible and used by all children on a daily basis.”

The school has a close relationship with SISK, engaging in construction

site visits and career talks with the company.

St Ronan’s NS fifth and sixth class students will be participating in the Marathon children’s running programme this year.

“They will run 26 miles over the course of eight weeks during the school day. A huge ‘thank you’ to local businesses SISK and Shannon Valley for sponsoring all the works,” said Ms Conlon.
