Children find JumpStart boxing project a big hit
A GROUP of children who took part in an innovative boxing project in North Clondalkin Library attended an awards ceremony last week to mark their completion of the programme.
The event was held in the library last Wednesday, October 11, for the children aged between 10 and 12 who completed the library’s JumpStart Boxing Academy programme.
Former Irish international footballers Caroline Thorpe and Noeleen McMahon handed out certs and medals at the ceremony and spoke about the positive impact sport has had on their lives.
Rosena Hand from North Clondalkin Library, who has helped to facilitate the programme, told The Echo: “The atmosphere was electric at the awards ceremony, with the room filled to capacity with attendees and parents.
“The awards ceremony is very important to both the attendees and the organisers – it gives the attendees a sense of accomplishment that they have completed their programme, and they receive their certs and medals in front of their parents.”
The JumpStart also recently expanded their training sessions to be more inclusive, so neurodiverse children can take part. “South Dublin Library service is committed to being an inclusive service and increasing access to its services to all,” explained Ms Hand.
“We felt it was appropriate to expand the JumpStart Boxing Club to neurodiverse children, and the parents were delighted that we did so.”
The next round of JumpStart Boxing will commence on November 1.
