Children’s Book Festival 2017 across South Dublin County Libraries

WHAT do football, a priceless book lost for 100 years, a puppet who wants to be a real boy, Adrian Mole and the magic of Harry Potter all have in common?
They are all part of the fun of Children’s Book Festival 2017 in South Dublin County Libraries.
South Dublin County Libraries is delighted to welcome back the amazing Tom Palmer, author of 40 books.
He has written three series of books for Puffin Books – Football Academy, Foul Play and The Squad and several books for Barrington Stoke (a publisher of dyslexia-friendly books).
His new series is called Defenders which mixes football and history in one action-packed story.
Apart from meeting children in libraries and schools throughout the County, Tom will be hosting a special event in Lucan Library on Thursday, October 26 at 3.30pm for children aged 9 – 12.
Glory and fun are guaranteed at this penalty shoot-out meets quiz event. Parents should book this event by ringing Lucan Library at 01-621 6422.
Throughout October, schoolchildren of various ages will also get the chance to ask writers like Amanda Bell, Joe O’Brien, Carmel Uí Cheallaigh, Eoin Colfer and Paul Gamble among others about why they started writing and where they get their ideas from.
Amanda Bell will be sharing how the story of a priceless library book returned to the famous Marsh’s Library after 100 years inspired her to write her first book for children.
The Children’s Book Festival in South Dublin incorporates a programme of events for families, children and teenagers that form part of The Red Line Book Festival which runs from October 11 to October 15.
The hilarious stage production of Sue Townsend’s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾ at the Civic Theatre on Friday, October 13 will be a sure-fire hit with anyone who is 13¾ or can remember that time in their life.
While the story of the puppet with a nose that betrays his lies is brought to life also in the Civic by Cbeebies’ Patrick Lynch in The Curious Adventure of Pinnochio at noon on Sunday, October 15. Later, at 2pm, Michael Moylan will take you on a whistle-stop tour of history highlighting the inspirations for the Myths and Monsters of Harry Potter at a family fun event in the Court of Petty Sessions, Rathcoole.
For budding authors and comic strip artists, there are two events of interest: Creative Book Making for Children (ages 6 – 12 years) in Rua Red on Saturday, October 14 at 12 noon and Electric Lines – live comic readings for teenagers by Stray Lines – at 2.30pm in the Civic’s Loose End Studio.
