Church and Tower in need of preservation

THE ruins of St Cuthbert’s Church at Kilmahuddrick, and the Old Tower Castle at Old Tower Crescent, are “deteriorating” and in need of preservation, according to Independent councillor Francis Timmons.

Cllr Timmons visited St Cuthberts Church in Deansrath, and the Tower recently and was “shocked and disappointed” to see both of the structures “deteriorating even more.”

“Graffiti, litter and overgrown trees and bushes – it’s a disgrace that we have this historical landmark on our doorstep and can’t enjoy it,” he said.

“We really need to preserve these landmarks for future generations.”

Cllr Timmons is calling on South Dublin County Council to clean up the ruins of St Cuthbert’s Church and Old Tower Castle – forwarding motions on the subject for the Clondalkin ACM on June 22.

The motion for the Old Tower Crescent, calls for graffiti to be removed, and a fence be put around the Tower to protect it, with a sign to be erected detailing the history of the structure.
