Citywise Fast Track Awards
By Echo Reporter
MORE than 250 people descended on Citywise in Jobstown recently to ring out a great year for the training centre and the multiple successes of its students.
Every Christmas, Citywise hosts its Fast Track Awards, which recognise the achievements of primary and secondary school students who have enrolled in the unique programme.
Developed for kids who are better suited to educational opportunities outside of mainstream school, Fast Track consists of a range of academic and STEM [science, technology, engineering and maths] programmes that support children from 4th class to Leaving Certificate – a mix of classes and activities that help young people to set their personal and educational sights higher, ensuring they reach their full potential.
At a bumper awards night in Citywise before Christmas, 52 awards recognised the achievements, dedication and enthusiasm of students, many of whom progress to become volunteers and leaders in the centre.
The event was also attended by Tallaght Person of the Year, Philip Preston who, the guest of honour, highlighted the impact of Citywise.
“My own daughter and two brothers started in Citywise at an early age and are still involved”, he said.
“It is a tremendous service to the communities of Tallaght and the young people [being awarded] are the future of all of our areas.”
