Cleaner (24) was abusive towards security staff at Luas stop fined €200

A CLEANER who was abusive towards security staff at a Luas stop in Tallaght, was fined at Tallaght District Court.

Lester Rivera (24), with an address of Dolcain House, Monastery Road, Clondalkin, appeared before court charged with public order and public intoxication offences.

Garda Michael Bradley told the court that on March 11, 2025, at the Belgard Luas stop, gardai responded to a report of a male who was “threatening and abusive” to security staff.

Upon arrival to the scene by gardai, Mr Rivera continued to shout at staff and was arrested at 6.05pm. He refused to give his name to gardai and continued to be verbally abusive at the station towards staff.

Defence solicitor Jermiah Breen said his client’s English was “not great” at the time of the offence, having arrived in Ireland 16 months ago, but he had apologised for his behaviour.

The court heard that Luas staff asked Rivera to leave the tram as he had no ticket and that there was a “language barrier.”

Judge Karen Dowling fined Rivera €200.
