THE family of a young man who was hit by a car during a recent freak road accident in Clondalkin, have been humbled by the positive response from members of the community who have pledged to support his recovery.

Robert O’Sullivan (31), from Bawnogue, was struck by a car as he made his way to work on the Ninth Lock Road on the morning of August 29.

He was left with serious multiple injuries, a significant brain injury, is currently under care at Beaumount Hospital, and has a long road of recovery ahead.

Friends of Robert, a popular Dunnes Stores worker at the Mill Centre, set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his medical treatment and future costs associated with his recovery.

The page was initially set up with a target of €5k, but due to the positive response and exceeding the target after just four days, Roberts friends want to keep it going.

Fiona Murphy, one of Robert’s close friends, said he is someone who has “touched so many lives, and always brought such positivity and fun to any group of people he was with.”

“It’s amazing to see all the help and support that has been shown for him over the past four weeks,” said Fiona.

“The GoFundMe page has been phenomenal, almost reaching the target in the first three days of the page going active is a huge credit to Rob and it shows his family how many people care and are there to help.”

Fiona helped to organise a business fundraiser for Robert at the Cold Cut club on October 27, and is appealing for businesses to donate raffle prizes.

Already, the 9th Lough Takeaway, 9th Lough Barbers and Lloyds Pharmacy in the Mill have pledged to support the fundraiser.
