ST DOMINIC’S College in Ballyfermot has been awarded the status of Ambassador School by Cycle Against Suicide
The annual Cycle Against Suicide Ambassador School awards were held recently at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.
The awards recognised the efforts of 89 schools around Ireland who have completed the mental health promotion schools ambassador programme.
The programme provides a framework for schools to integrate mental health activities into the school plan.
St Dominic’s was awarded ambassador school in recognition of their completion of the programme for the fourth time in a row – an achievement by very few schools in attendance.
St Dominic’s Guidance Counsellor Cheryl Keeler said: “The ceremony was a great day. It’s wonderful to attend such a positive event, and have the efforts of our school and in particular our students recognised.
“Our participation in the programme has had an enormously positive impact on our school community, fostered a school-wide approach to the promotion of positive mental health, and provided incredible opportunities for student leadership.”
This year St Dominic’s plan to expand a range of different initiatives, set to include positive mental health dramas, and the prospect of their very own sensory garden.
