Comghall claims National Junior Cadet title

SACRED Heart Boxing Club had two Irish champions in the National Junior Cadets with both Tyler Moore and Comghall Guerrine who put in impressive shows.

Comghall Guerrine took part in the 42kg catergory with no fewer than 19 boxers in the weight he was drawn a last 16 bout against Dean Collins from Ballina BC.

The Killinarden lad put in a strong performance stopping his opponent in round three, setting up a quarter-final bout that was a repeat of the All-Ireland final in April against Darren Joyce from Elite BC in Mullingar. Comghall secured the victory on a 4.1 split decision.

In the semi-final Comghall met two times Irish champion Daira McGuiness from St Monica’s Newry in a highly anticipated contest.

Comghall showed off his superior boxing skills the take the victory on a 4.1 split decision setting up a final showdown with Paddy Casey from Southside Boxing Academy in Limerick.

Comghall put in a masterclass performance controlling the distance with the lead hand to head and body and landing big over hand left hooks on his opponent taking the fight on a 5.0 split claiming the National Junior Cadet 42kg title.

He looks forward now to representing Ireland at international level.

It’s been a brilliant season for Comghall who only walked into a boxing club for the first time 18 months ago.

In his first season he has won the Dublin League, Co Dublin championships, All-Ireland title and National Junior Cadet title.

Meanwhile, Tyler Moore in the 35kg catergory bowed out in the preliminaries on the tightest of margins 3-2 split decision against Emmet Shields from Glasnevin Boxing Club.

This was a fight that on another day could have went Tyler’s way after a good performance, however, competition will give him a chance to show his skills next year.

Tyler has had a brilliant season winning the Dublin League, County Dublin Championship and All-Ireland titles.
