Community behind Keith ahead of Special Olympics World Games

FAMILY, friends and neighbours are rallying their support for Keith Doyle, who is representing Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin (June 17-25).

Keith (39) is competing in ten-pin bowling, and with over 20 years experience playing the game, he has stepped up practice ahead of the games.

A super video by Ballyfermot Heritage Group documented an interview with the Olympian and a huge array of local figures, all of whom wishing Keith well on his adventure.

Keith’s aunt and Godmother Ann told The Echo the community are very excited ahead of the games, which are taking place for the first time ever in Germany.

“It’s a brilliant time, the whole of Ballyfermot are behind him with bunting and flags on his road in Ballyfermot Crescent,” said Ann.

“He represented Ireland before in Belfast and won a medal. Keith is going on Sunday with the athletes. A few of us are going over on Friday week, including Keith’s mammy and daddy Helena and Eamonn Doyle, his sister Nadine, her husband Liam and their kids Zack and Georgia, me his godmother and my husband Anthony Killeen, our daughter, son-in-law, and some of Keith’s friends.”

Keith works at a business hub in Palmerstown and practices his bowling in Charlestown and Blanchardstown.

Six people have been selected for team Ireland including Keith, who admitted to feeling a bit nervous when he heard the news.

However, he is looking forward to the trip now and is proud to represent Ballyfermot on the international stage.
