Community health workers at the Traveller Development are presented with certificates

CERTIFICATES were this week presented in the Tallaght Traveller Development Group office to nine community health workers who successfully completed an education course delivered by MABS.
Celebrations were high in the Killinarden-based development project when Tallaght MABS (Money Advice and Budgeting Service) presented certificates for the successful completion of a Money Management course to a number of community healthcare workers – who will pass their new knowledge and awareness around money management to those they support through the development project.
Running over a number of consecutive weeks, the training also strived to ensure that members of the Travelling community are aware of and access services such as MABS – alongside creating valuable links between the money management service and community organisations.
With the course delivered by Tallaght MABS, which is located on the High Street, described as “very worthwhile”, participants learned about money management, budgeting how to access loans and the importance of savings.
Edel Alfred, from MABS Tallaght, said: “The community education training was a great success.
“It gave us the opportunity to develop a great on-going working relationship with a group in our area. I felt we learned so much from them.”
Tallaght MABS was supported by National Traveller MABS in delivering the course and with training and resources.
MABS, which has 65 locations nationwide, is the State’s money advice service and, for the past 20 years, has been guiding people through dealing with problem debt, offering advice, support and training.
To contact MABS call 0761 07 2370, email tallaght@mabs.ie or drop into their office in Hays House, High Street, Tallaght between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
