Mojo Listens service supports men through difficult times

Mojo Listens service supports men through difficult times

THE Mojo Sheds programme continues to grow locally, with members launching a new listening service, supported by the Samaritans, in Jobstown on March 3.

In recent years, the Men’s Sheds programme has rooted itself in communities as more and more men join the informal social club which provides not only a chance to make new friends but to learn new skills and take part in workshops, which reflect the interests of the group.

This March Mojo Shed launches Mojo Listens, which saw a number of members trained by the Samaritans to man a listening drop-in service.

Running every Thursday between 6.30pm and 9.30pm in St Thomas’s Parish Hall, Jobstown, Mojo Listens is open to men from right across South Dublin who would like to drop in for a cup of tea and a chat with one of the Mojo listeners.

Danny Morris, Shed leader, said: “We are not professional, but we are men who know what it’s like to struggle.
“We want to let other men know that all of us go through difficult times and we know the power of having someone there just to listen.

“We don’t give advice but we do share what works for us.”

While run by men for men, the Shed does get a lot of support from women and organisations in the community such as south Dublin County Partnership and the Tallaght Centre for the Unemployed.

To raise awareness that Mojo listeners are available to provide a listening, non-judgemental ear, a launch evening will take place in St Thomas’s parish hall on March 3 at 6.30pm – to which members of the community are invited to attend.
