Community raises €12,410 in support of Caique’s Brazilian family
By Maurice Garvey
THE community of Clondalkin has helped to raise more than €12,400 to support the family of Brazilian student Caique Trindade De Oliveira.
A GoFundMe page was set up two days ago by people from Clondalkin and the Brazilian community in Ireland to support the family of Caique, after his body was recovered on Monday by the Garda Water Unit in Clondalkin.

The page initially had a target of €2,000, but this was increased to €5,000 early on Tuesday, and then to €10,000 on Wednesday, as donations poured through in the wake of the tragedy.
The target on the page has now been increased to €12,000 and, as of this afternoon, €12,410 has been raised by more than 700 people.
Caique (24) was missing since March 6 – prompting an extensive search of the waterway and parkland area in Clondalkin over the last week.
Many members of Clondalkin gardai, the Civil Defence, local resident volunteers and Brazilian nationals, combed the area from Corkagh Park/Fonthill Road area, towards the Mill Shopping Centre.
Gardai thanked all volunteers and agencies who were involved in the search operation.
Caique’s mother has been in Dublin since March 7.
The Echo understands the Brazilian Embassy in Dublin and the Irish Consulate in Brazil are providing her with assistance.
The GoFundMe page said: “Our thoughts are with his mother at this heart-breaking time. The people of Clondalkin and the Brazilian community can continue to show their support for her by donating to, what will be, substantial costs. A small gesture by many will help reduce her financial burden.”
As of 12.30pm today (Thursday), the GoFundMe page is totalling €12,410.
