Council plan to deliver 3,700 new social homes in four years
SOUTH Dublin County Council plans to deliver around 3,700 new social homes and 1,500 affordable homes for purchase and rental by 2026.
Plenary meetings with Minister for Housing and the chief executives of local authorities took place over October and December 2022 to discuss the various aspect of housing delivery.
Up for discussion was measures around maximising 2022 housing delivery and accelerating subsequent social and affordable housing deliver and the response to homelessness.
The winter eviction ban formed part of the meetings, alongside targeted leasing initiative to provide additional social homes, vacancy, updates to affordable housing fund supports and new land acquisition.
Each of these measures are being explored by the council through its approved Housing Deliver Action Plan (HDAP) 2022 – 2026.
The HDAP outlines the authority’s plans to meet its targets for social and affordable housing delivery from 2022 through to 2026.
The 3,700 new social homes are projected for delivery through build, AHB supply, Part V delivery and leasing.
Delivery of 1,500 affordable homes for purchase and rental is also targeted over the next four-years.
South Dublin County Council fell short of its targeted 400 new build social homes under the Housing For All scheme in 2022, delivering 391 by year end.
The council has a target of 700 new build Housing For All social homes in 2023, although it has said that their “pipeline currently projects in excess of this target with delivery number of approximately 765 homes”.
