Council to take charge of housing estate in Newcastle

NEWS that South Dublin County Council are taking in charge Ballynakelly in Newcastle, has been welcomed by Sinn Féin Councillor Mark Ward.

Cllr Ward said: “The taking in charge by the council of Ballynakelly has been an issue for residents for numerous years now.

“This will mean that the council will be responsible for services and public areas, including public roads, footpaths, trees, public lighting and public open spaces.

“However, it is essential that public roads, footpaths, services and open spaces in Ballnakelly are finished by the developer to a standard acceptable to South Dublin County Council prior to taking in charge.”

He continued: “I have received confirmation that progress has been made and the council are awaiting the completion of essential public lighting works before it can continue with the taking in charge process.

“The council anticipate that these works will be completed in the coming months. I can understand and share the frustration of residents in Ballynakelly but the taking-in-charge process cannot commence until these works are complete.

“This news is a step in the right direction and I will continue to advocate on behalf of the residents of Ballnakelly until this issue is resolved.”
