Councillor to run as independent in next local election
LOCAL councillor Dermot Richardson is to run in the next local elections as an independent instead of Sinn Féin.
A councillor in Tallaght since 2014, Richardson, who joined Sinn Feín in 2016, confirmed to The Echo this week of his decision and wished his former colleagues all the best.
“I have decided to serve my community in the next local elections as an independent councillor rather than a representative of Sinn Féin, Cllr Richardson told The Echo.
“I have decided not to put myself forward for selection for SF for the local elections in 2024 as I know I can better serve my community as I have always done, as an independent councillor and therefore I have resigned as a member of Sinn Féin.
“I will always be a republican and will do my best for the community.
“I would like to wish my former colleagues the very best for the future.
“I have been elected to South Dublin Council since 2014 and I believe I have made a difference in the community with A Helping Hand supporting families and individuals in need including Christmas Dinner for families in emergency accommodation and food hampers, available to the community. I will endeavour to continue this work and more as an Independent Councillor”.
