Crews working throughout the night to restore power to the Luas red line

Crews are working throughout the night to restore power to the Luas red line, with road closures in place in the area of the Belgard Road.

A truck damaged the overhead power cables earlier today, and the line has not been running to Tallaght or Saggart since 11am.

Some roads were closed during the day, and tonight more closures have taken place to ensure the crews can work.

According to AA: “Traffic travelling from Belgard Rd towards Tallaght is being diverted via Cookstown Rd and traffic heading away from Tallaght is being diverted onto Bóthar Katharine Tynan inbound, although traffic is light in the area.”

Luas operators, in an earlier update, said service was expected to resume in the morning.

In statement earlier, operators said: “Please be advised there is no service between Red Cow, Tallaght and Saggart as a truck crashed into the overhead cables, leaving this section of the line with no power.

NB: Services between Red Cow and Saggart/Tallaght are not expected to return before end of schedule this evening at 00.30am.”
