Criminals blamed for ramming stolen truck into security cameras in Ballyfermot

A Garda investigation is underway in Ballyfermot after a stolen truck was used in an attempt to damage security cameras attached to a pole.

The incident happened just before 8pm in the Cherry Orchard area, and Cllr Daithi Doolan has said the attempts by criminals to disrupt security will not succeed in stopping progress in the area.

Speaking today to Echo.ie, Cllr Doolan said: “Ramming a stolen truck into security cameras is unacceptable and very dangerous.

“The action was an attempt to undermine the good work going on in Cherry Orchard. These criminals will not succeed in stopping progress.

“These actions in no way represent local people. Families here are working hard to improve the community for their children and neighbours.

“There is great work going on right across Cherry Orchard. We have the building of new homes for local families.

“We have new and exciting plans to develop Cherry Orchard. None of this will be stopped by the actions of a few criminals.

“I would ask that all of us, local political representatives, Gardaí and residents redouble our efforts to ensure this behaviour does not divide or distract from the good work we have been doing”

In a statement released to Echo.ie by Gardai a spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage to a pole at Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot.

“The incident occurred on the 17th April 2017 at approximately 7.40pm. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda station on 01-6667200.
