Dad’s death inspires Moses to medal glory

A YOUNG athlete who lost his father earlier this month, after he passed away suddenly while on-duty as a taxi-driver, bravely competed in the recent Dublin Indoor Athletic Championships – winning individual bronze and helping secure silver for his club.
Living in Clondalkin, teenager Moses Ikpefua, who is a member of Tallaght Athletic Club, lost his father, also called Moses, only one week before he courageously took to the track to represent his club.

Moses’s dad, who was in his forties, is reported to have passed away after an “incident with a fare” on James’ Street in the early hours of January 5.
However, gardai have confirmed to The Echo that they are treating the case as a sudden death, “no foul play”, and that a file is being prepared for the Coroners Court.
Despite the sudden loss of his dad, teenager Moses bravely took on the recent Dublin Indoor Athletic Championships, winning individual bronze in the U16 200m.
He also helped his club team secure Silver in the U17 4x200m relay final.
Tallaght AC coach, Cecil Johnston told The Echo: “Despite grieving the loss of his father who tragically died during the course of his work as a taxi driver a week earlier, Moses Ikpefua put in a very brave appearance at the Championships.”
Dedicated and talented club member
Moses has been running with Tallaght AC for a number of years and over that time has being a dedicated and talented club member.
Summarising some of Moses’ past achievements, Cecil said: “In the last five years Moses has won National Indoor sprint title and bronze medal, eight Dublin titles in track and field, one Dublin track and field league title and numerous silver and bronze medals in Dublin indoor and outdoor track and field championships and leagues.
“He has also featured on many medal winning relay teams for Tallaght in Dublin Championships and represented the club on these at Nationals.”
