Davis pipped at post
THOMAS Davis junior ladies team were pipped at the post in the Junior ‘E’ Championship Final last week after going down 1-22 to 1-6 against a strong Garristown outfit in the decider.
The Kiltipper side did make all of the early running with Nicole Scott firing over a point on two minutes after a foul on Georgina Plowman.
Garristown struggled to get out of their own half as pressure from Davis’ saw them add another point from Aoife Reardon after six minutes and this was followed up with a point from Nicole Scott.
A minute later Rita Carroll added another point, but they did kick three wides as Garristown quickly settled and pulled themselves back into the match.
Garristown kicked their opening point on nine minutes and soon after Siobhan Rutledge and Kate Dwyer split the posts to leave the sides all square.
Davis responded with a Rita Carroll point following a good run, but Garristown took charge after this with midfielder Laura McManus making a good run and passing to Amy O’Brien to level matters.
Garristown hit the front for the first time 10 min-utes before the break. A seeping move involving Shauna White found the onrushing Shannon Rock who fed Dwyer for her third point.
Rita Carroll for Davis and Amy O’Brien traded points while Dwyer also got in on the scoring act.
Just before the interval Davis keeper Nicole Brady pulled off two superb saves to deny Garristown a goal and keep her side within shooting distance.
Georgina Plowman did have a goal opportunity, but her shot drifted wide.
However another point from the northsiders saw them turn this game around as they led 0-10 to 0-5 at the interval.
The second half remained the same as Garristown applied the pressure scoring a point from an Amy O’Brien free to push them further in front.
Edel Quinn kicked a Garristown point before Davis midfielder Rita Carroll landed her fourth point for the Kiltipper outfit.
The game was effectively over when Siobhan Rutledge was fouled in the square and Amy O’Brien stepped up and buried the ball to the back of the Davis net.
Shauna White and Shannon Rock chipped in with a couple of points while the Tallaght girls were thrown a lifeline when Georgina Plowman went on a rampaging run but was fouled in the square. Louise Gleeson stepped up to fire home.
Yet this was to be Davis’ last score as Garristown finished with Rock and Ruthledge sending over points to round off a great win.
