McDermott, (35), Cherry Orchard Avenue, Ballyfermot, had pleaded guilty to having no insurance and no driving licence at Promenade Road, Dublin Port, on January 20, 2017, and to having no insurance and no driving licence at Shancastle Avenue, Clondalkin, on December 26, 2016.

The presenting sergeant said McDermott had 105 previous convictions, including 10 for no insurance.

He was before Judge McHugh for sentencing.

McDermott’s counsel, Ciaran MacLoughlin BL, said his client’s last no-insurance convictions were from an incident nine years ago.

Judge McHugh told Mr MacLoughlin that there were two no-insurance offences before the court and the first in time was from December 2016.

He said that with 10 previous for no-insurance, McDermott should expect to get a custodial sentence.

He sentenced McDermott to five months jail with a 15-year ban for the first no-insurance and fined him €500 with a 10-year ban for the second no-insurance.

The remaining offences were taken into consideration.
