DSD star Tonosa races to Raheny Five-Mile title
DSD ATHLETIC Club’s Hiko Tonosa, National Track champion over 5000m and 10000m Road champion, confirmed his position as Ireland’s Number One with a hard fought victory in the Axa Raheny Five-Mile Road Race on Sunday.
Tonosa was still locked into a small group by the closing 200m, but he produced a strong finishing kick that propelled him to the win which also saw him just miss out on the course record by one second.

He led the DSD team to victory with Matt Bergin third; Paul O’Donnell 13th and Emmet Jennings just one place further back.
The club’s women’s team were also in top form, taking gold in the team race with Fiona Clinton sixth; Niamh Devlin 13th and Amy Moran 18th.
What’s more, the DSD Women’s Masters also finished first with Cathryn Brady and Pauline Robertson emerging first and second respectively in the F50 division while Eileen Gillick also delivered in the F40 category.
Sheelagh Jones won the F60 divison while Aaron Donnelly picked up silver in the Under 20 Men’s race.
Elsewhere DSD’s small group of junior athletes fielded in the National Junior and Under 23 Indoor Championships in Athlone on Saturday, certainly made their presence felt.
Jack Olivier, moving down from his usual 400m took the Under 20 200m title in 21.60 and finished runner up in the 60m in 6.95.
In the 400m event, Ciarán Carthy engaged in a thrilling battle with Jack Raftery of Donore Harriers over the final 100m, with the latter just taking it on the line.
In the Junior Women’s 200m, Molly Hourihan ran a fine race to finish third while Gregor McCullagh Travers was happy to make the 400m Final with a PB of 52.17 in the heat, before James Holden also reached the Under 23 200m Final.
