DSPCA issue warning after box of kittens dumped on Dublin doorstep
The DSPCA has urged cat owners to have their pets neutered as kitten season has arrived after a box of kittens were left on a person’s doorstep in Dublin.
The poor cats were in a sealed box left outside the home of a man in Glasnevin last Friday, with the animal welfare group sharing a video online that shows the terrified cats being rescued.
The man first thought the box contained a baby, but it was quickly determined that there were animals inside.
The DSPCA’s Gillian Bird has once again asked the public to make sure their cats are neutered, while she has also asked people to be conscious of the fact that feeding wild cats will result in them returning.
She said: “The message is get your cat neutered, it’s not too late, and we offer a subsidised rate for the procedure.
“We can offer advice to anyone who needs it, and we also want to remind people about feeding wild cats.
“If you feed them they will come back, and if that cat has kittens in your garden they are your responsibility.”
“The DSPCA see this every year as people still decline to have their cats neutered and somehow they feel it is ok to abandon the kittens.
“If you own a cat (unless you have valid reason not to) you must have it neutered by six months of age.
“We at the DSPCA are out the door trying to find foster and forever homes for hundreds of unwanted and abandoned kittens every year, in fact we had to find 1,100 homes for cats and kittens last year alone.
“Contact your local vet today to make an appointment or if you are in receipt of social welfare visit our mobile clinic.”
