DUBLIN: Revenue and Gardai seize cannabis worth €2.4m

Almost two and half million euros worth of cannabis has been seized at Dublin Port after an intelligence-led operation involving Revenue and Gardai.

Revenue Officers, assisted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Special Crime Task Force, seized 376kg of cannabis resin and 9.7kg of herbal cannabis, with a total estimated value of €2,450,000.

In a statement this afternoon, a spokesperson for Revenue and Customs said: “The drugs were uncovered in crates in a truck that had disembarked the evening ferry arriving from Holyhead.

“Following a positive indication on the truck by drugs dog Holly, the detection was made by Revenue’s Mobile X-Ray Scanner. 

“A 41 year old Northern Irish man was arrested and is being held at Store Street Garda station.”

Investigations are ongoing with the cooperation of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
