After Saturday’s play, Dublin ladies trailed the champions Kildare by 14 shots, but they put in a magnificent effort in the singles, Sheelagh Elmes and Ger Ward both scoring under par (-2) and (-1) respectively.

Pauline Balfe from Old County, on her debut for the Dublin team, produced a very creditable 58 (+4) on the Deerpark Course while Philo Condron showed she can still mix it with the best in her 70’s, carding a respectable 61.

In the end they halved the deficit by seven shots, but missed out on the Leinster/All Ireland double.

In the Gents competition, Old County’s George McGreal captained the Dublin side and they too trailed behind, Limerick, Cork and hosts Kerry after the opening day.

Following the first round on Day Two, they trailed Wexford by 12 and Cork by 10, but produced a wonderful singles display with JR Crangle shooting a superb 46 and Lucan’s Chris Gallagher a 48 to pip Wexford for the runner’s up spot

This Sunday sees the Glenville Scratch Cup take centre stage at the Kiltipper course and a big crowd is expected with the conclusion of the Dublin Scratch Cup Series looming large.
