Elderly woman dies after fall outside car test centre

A WOMAN in her eighties has died from head injuries sustained at the National Car Test (NCT) Centre in Tallaght.

The elderly woman fell at the premises located on the Greenhills Road last Tuesday, January 7, and was transported to Tallaght University Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Applus Car Testing Service, who operate the NCT nationwide have expressed their condolences to the family.

A spokesperson from Applus said in a statement to The Echo: “We are aware of an unfortunate incident that occurred at the Greenhills Test Centre on January 7.

“The [Health and Safety Authority] and An Garda Síochána were informed. We are unable to make further comment.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.”

The Echo understands that the elderly woman was knocked off balance by high winds as she was leaving the test centre and suffered a fatal injury to the head.

Notified by Applus, a Garda spokesperson recognised that they were made aware of the incident while a spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said that they are at the initial stage of an investigation.

One of the functions of the HSA is to investigate all workplace fatalities.

“I can confirm that the HSA was notified of an incident involving an elderly customer at the NCT centre in Tallaght last week, and is carrying out preliminary inquiries,” said the spokesperson for the HSA.
