Elements of urgent care centre are behind time

A NUMBER of elements in the construction of the new Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre at Tallaght University Hospital are “currently behind”.
However, the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB) believes that there is “sufficient” time left in the construction programme to stay on track.

Reports of new delays to the National Children’s Hospital project at St James’s Hospital, and the potential cost implications, hit headlines in the past week.
The Echo contacted the NPHDB and asked if these delays would impact on the expected 2020 completion of the paediatric centre at Tallaght.
A spokesperson for NPHDB said: “Decant works at Tallaght University Hospital undertaken by the NPHDB to accommodate the new Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre are complete, and the new creche, changing facility and offices for Tallaght University Hospital are open.
“Construction work on the 4,600m2 CHI Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre commenced in February 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
“Some elements of the construction are currently behind but the NPHDB believes there is sufficient time left in the construction programme for the contractor to make up any time lost to date.”
The spokesperson added: “The CHI’s Commissioning Plan for opening the new Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre at Tallaght is currently in development and will include the date for opening of this new facility when completed.”
