The Parish of Firhouse raised over €15,000 and counting following their first-ever lip sync battle in the Citywest Hotel on Saturday, February 24, reports Aura McMenamin.

The hard-fought lip sync battle was eventually won by the “Spice Girls” who performed a medley of popular songs by the UK group.

According to Ita Lynch, who helped organise the night, the majority of the money raised came from sponsorship by parishioners and ticket sales, which were priced at €20 each.

Ms Lynch said that while the total amount raised was still being counted, the amount was in excess of €15,000 after paying for the venue costs.

Three charities and causes that serve the local community will be aided by the money and will receive at least €5,000 each: Pieta House, Our Lady’s Hospice and the refurbishment of Our lady of Mount Carmel Church.

The Brian Murphy memorial cup was also presented on the night.
