Fitzgerald leads Lucan masters in Lenister C’ships

NIAMH Fitzgerald was among the star performers for Lucan Harriers in the Leinster Indoor Masters Championships held in the National Indoor Arena in the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown on Sunday.

The club brought home seven medals with a number of members also record-ing personal bests.

There were gold medals for Fitzgerald and Edith Coakley in the 1500m and 60m Hurdles respectively while Carol Kearney finished runner-up in the 400m and also took bronze in the 60m and 200m.

Eoin Fitzgerald came home second in the 1500m while Rory Thompson secured bronze in the 1500m.

While she will miss the Indoor Internationals in Korea later this year, Fitzgerald will instead focus on the European Outdoor Championships  in Denmark.

Also in action at the National Masters Indoor Championships were DSD who had a spectacular weekend winning medals from Junior to Over 65.

Maxie Jones (W65) set New Age Group records in the 1500m and 800m while Peadar McGing (M60) carded a new Leinster best in the 200m.

Gold medals were won by Sophie Murphy (Junior Women’s 3000m), Shane Sheridan (M55, 60m), Kevin Byrne (M45, Pole Vault, High and Long Jump and 60m Hurdles), Jodie McCann (Junior Women’s, 1500m) and Luke McCann (Junior Men’s 1500m), Robert Corbally(Senior Men’s, 3000m) and Cathryn Brady (W50, 1500m) who also finished runner-up in 800m.

Silver medalists also included Mark Kavanagh (Senior Men’s, 60m and 200m) Mike Burke (M40, 60m and 200m), Grace O’Rourke and Grainne Moggan (Senior Women’s High Jump).

Donough McGivern (M65, Shot Putt) and Jim Quinn (M45 1500m) won bronze in their chosen events.
