Five arrests after car fails to stop for gardai

FIVE PEOPLE were arrested on Thursday after a car failed to stop for gardai in Knocklyon.

The incident which occurred around 1.40pm, saw the car subsequently involved in a collision with two cars driven by members of the public at Grange Road in Rathfarnham.

The five occupants of the car fled on foot and were pursued by Gardaí, with the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit.

It was established that the occupants of the car were suspected of involvement in a burglary in Walkinstown a short time earlier.

“Five males were subsequently detained at Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region,” gardai said in a statement.

“Two (one in his 50s and the other a juvenile teenager) were arrested under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

“The juvenile has since been released pending further investigations.

“A third male (20s) was arrested on foot of a bench warrant. Two others (aged in their 20s) were detained for the purposes of a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act and subsequently released without charge.”

All three occupants of the two cars driven by the members of the public were brought to Tallaght University Hospital for assessment.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
