FoodCloud distributed over 200 million meals in 2022
TALLAGHT-based social enterprise FoodCloud reached a substantial milestone in 2022, distributing the equivalent of more than 200 million meals of surplus food and food aid over four different markets, according to its annual report.
Income at €8,545,570 was down marginally against prior years, and a deficit of €213,500 due a timing difference on the recognition of fundraising income at year end was reported.
Achievements for the year include supporting the launch of the Irish Government’s National Food Waste Roadmap.
FoodCloud CEO Iseult Ward said: “As we came out of lockdowns, entered a cost-of-living crisis, witnessed war in Ukraine and faced the pressure of the ever-increasing urgency of the climate crisis, we continued to work incredibly hard with our partners across Ireland, UK, Czech Republic and Slovakia, redistributing over 22,000 tonnes of surplus food.
“This is an increase of 35pc from 2021, which was our previous highest year of growth, and is the equivalent of more than 52 million meals. In addition, by redistributing this surplus food, over 70,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent was avoided.
FoodCloud connects businesses that have surplus food with charities and community groups that need it.
Their partners today include Tersco, Musgrave, Lidl, Aldi
and Waitrose.
As well as working with large food businesses, FoodCloud have hubs located in Dublin, Cork and Galway.
The food is uploaded onto the IT warehousing system, segregated into storage and delivered to charity partners.
