Former FBI man is keynote speaker on ‘hactivism’ battles

A FORMER Chief of Staff to the FBI will address the ongoing digital battle against hackers, terrorist recruiters and spies, at the Secure Computing Forum on September 12.
Organised by Nangor Road IT solutions firm DataSolutions and INM Events, the conference will feature talks by industry experts on the ‘dark net’, crypto-currencies, surveillance technology, and cyber privacy.

John P Carlin, a former assistant attorney general for the US Department of Justice’s National Security Division, is listed as a keynote speaker.
Carlin served as a top-level official in Republican and Democratic administrations, prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, and regularly advises the commercial sector on cyber and national security matters.
Other speakers lined up for the RDS event include Mustafa Al-Bassam, co-founder of LulzSec, a high-profile hacking group which made headlines for its hacks on Sony, Fox, and the FBI.
Banned from the internet for two years, Al-Bassam is now focused on educating the public about cyber security, and will discuss hacktivisim, hacking for political activism.
As well as the latest cyber-attack techniques and trends, the event will explore the best methods for prevention and protection.
The conference will be opened by Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan, and also feature talks by Eddie Doyle, global security strategist at Check Point Research, Jamie Bartlett, technology journalist and author of The Dark Net, Paddy McGuinness, recent Deputy National Security Adviser in the UK’s Cabinet Office, and Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon.
Greg Williams, editor-in-chief of Wired magazine, will discuss how criminals and hackers are impacting the world.
Four hundred delegates are expected to attend the conference.
Michael O’Hara, Group Managing Director, DataSolutions, said they were delighted about the interest shown in the event.
